Good day, I had a work and travel visa in the early 2000s. I returned home overseas afterwards. Married and need NI number for skilled worker job. I am currently overseas. Please advise how to retrieve the number.

Hi,

If you had been given a National Insurance number and handed it to your employer, it will have been located on your payslips, P45’s and P60 documents.
A P60 is a record of your employment within a tax year to retain for reference. If you did not prove your identity and get issued with an official National Insurance number, you will have been assigned a temporary one.(Only for tax purposes-not official)

You can contact the National Insurance enquiry helpline below for assistance in tracing your National Insurance number or by going to HMRC and placing CA5403 into the search bar and posting the form to the address on there.

As you have stated you are overseas, if you are a resident overseas you would not need a UK National Insurance number for another countries process.
