I have been unable to work through ill health and subsequently not earned any income during the tax years 20-21, 21-22, 22-23. I was below the small profit threshold will nil returns and was not required to pay Class 2 Nat Ins contributions. I am not trying to see what benefits I am entitled to claim for ie ESA etc but am not sure if I will be refused to claim because of not paying any Nat Ins during the previous years. I have 36 full years of full Nat Insurance paid up. Any advice would be grateful .

Hi bernieb,
We would advise you to contact the DWP regarding a claim for benefits’.
Thank you.
