Hey, I am a Canadian Citizen living in Canada and had invested (in a UK based Crypto trading company based in Scotland) for an amount of £20,255 and its present value is £44,171 (or $75,473CAD). Question1 Would i be required to pay the Insurance on this as a Canadian Citizen living in Canada but have invested in a Scotland based Crypto Investment company. At present i am being asked to pay $5000USD and it has not been disclosed if it is towards the National Insurance or not. Question2 Am i still liable to pay Capital Gains Tax for UK at the time of withdrawal (to be deposited in my Canadian Bank Account) even if am not living or working in UK (as i am living and working in Canada as a Canadian Citizen). At present i am being asked to pay Capital Gains Tax of $11,212USD (20% of my total balance of $56,062USD. I am not living or working in UK as i am living and working in Canada as a Canadian Citizen. Looking forward for your suggestions Regards,

Hi,

We are unable to comment on the insurance question as this would be a query with the trading platform not HMRC. Secondly as you are not a UK resident you would not pay capital gains tax on any UK assets other than UK land and property as a non resident.

Thank you.

I am in the same situation as a Canadian citizen I invested 5,000 euros in crypto through a trading company based in London, I am French resident in France and working in France, my current balance is 50149 euros when withdrawing my balance HMRC blocks my withdrawal and asks me to pay an insurance fee equivalent to 12% of my balance knowing that I will pay taxes in my country of residence how to unblock my balance Thanks

Hi,

This may be a charge imposed by the bank rather than HMRC.

Thank you.
