Hi I made a claim for specified adult child care credits and was awarded 6 years. We received notification from HMRC that they had been awarded back in November. DWP have been in contact but will only pay for 1 of the 6 years. I’ve contacted DWP and they are now referring us back to HMRC which I’m just confused about. Could you advise reasons why we have only been given the amount equivalent to 1 year. I can’t find any guidance online. The dates claimed were between 2011 and 2016. Retired in June 2020

Hi HGOLDTHORPE,
The Department for work and Pension (DWP) may have advised you that older years may not increase your pension as you are over State Pension age, the years 2011/12 to 2015/15 if you have obtained a pensions forecast.
If you contact DWP they should explain this for you as HMRC only applies the credits for the tax years in question.

Hello Looking at the list of who's eligible for receiving the credits and I note great-aunties/uncles aren't listed. Would they be eligible? Thanks

I look after my daughter's eldest child as she works. However she has now had another baby and is on statutory maternity pay. Is there a NI credit applicable within SMP for her or will she have to rely on her child benefit NI credits. Therefore I would not be able to claim the NI credit.

Hi susan johnson,
If your daughter requires the credits for her own State Pension entitlement, then no, you will not be able to apply for the transfer of the credits. However, if you daughter receives her full earnings from her employer then the credits may be transferred.
You will have to wait until the end of the affected tax year before you can apply and we can review the enquiry then.
Thank you.

Is there an NI credit within SMP . I know she will be receiving her child benefit NI credit but does she also get a NI credit in SMP in addition to her child benefit credits. Please state which credit you are referring to

I looked after my grandson from October 2014 until I retired in October 2021. My daughter died in September 2016 so when I claimed for credits I got my son in law to sign the form. I received 4 years credits as my daughters name was used before my son in law took over and I needed her to sign the form from 2014 to 2016.This I could not obviously do.was this correct?

Hi
For a decision on the award of Specified Adult Child care credits for the period from 2014 to 2016 you would need to compete form CA9176, print it off and post it to the address shown below with a covering letter explaining the circumstances involved.
