So if I am unable to pay my NI because I don't make enough money from my job, do you send out a bill, letter or invoice at the end of the credit year telling me I need to pay whatever amount it is I need to pay? If not, what do I need to do? Do I just call HMRC?

Hi,

If you have a Personal Tax Account (PTA) you can check it at the end of each tax year to see if the tax year is qualifying for pension purposes and if not, it will advise the amount required for it to do so.

If you don’t have a PTA you can set one up via link below

Personal tax account: sign in or set up

Or you may wish to call our National Insurance team  and we’ll be able to check for you.

National Insurance: general enquiries

Thank you.
