Hi, I have several years of NI gaps in my record as when my daughter was born my partner filled out the child benefit form but we didnt realise as it was in his name he got the NI credits but it should have been in my name as i stayed home and he worked full time for most of these years. We made sure when our son was born 7yrs later the child benefit for him was in my name. I have read somewhere that i can transfer those years from his records to mine, is this true? If so, how do i go about it and what happens if some of his years are not full? I dont want to take them from him if it messes his pension up as he retires several years before me! Thanks

Hi Safilou76,

You may be able to transfer the credits from your husbands National Insurance record to your own if they already have a qualifying year.

You must apply for a decision to be made.

For more information please see the guidance here:

National Insurance credits

Thank you.
