NI credits as a full time student

Hello, I am doing a 1 year full time PGCE course from Sep 24 to Jul 25. During this time I am not employed. I have a student loan for maintenance and as a single parent also receive Universal Credit. I understand that I'd be able to claim Class 1 credits for this time I'm studying, by post. Is that correct? And should I do it now, or claim it after my study period ends? Thank you.
