Are payments to visiting PhD speakers in school inside IR35?

Hello, our school approached PhD students to come and deliver workshops to 6th form students. Will their payments fall inside IR23 rules?

There is a tool called CEST  , this will determin if a worker on a specific engagement, should be classed as employed or self-employed.
