Hi Is it a requirement of HMRC that any milage claims only be paid where evidence of business cover on car insurance is shown? I understand that as an employer, the first 10,000 miles for an employee do not have to be reported to HMRC so for a one off trip or low amount of miles, HMRC are not involved is that correct? Thanks

Hi ,

If it is the employees own vehicle we allow an employer to pay 0.45p per mile for business miles up to 10,000 miles

and then 0.25p per mile there after.

We would not get involved in the insurance side of things .

Thank you .
