I have moved to the UK on May 1, 2024, while continuing my employment with my employer in Hong Kong remotely (work from home in the UK). Before I came to the UK, I worked for this employer for 10 years (working in HK and was not a UK tax resident before May 1 2024). The employer have maintained a defined benefits provident fund in Hong Kong and my fund value was GBP80,000 as of April 30, 2024. This employment ended on Mar 30, 2025 and my provident fund balance had grown to GBP100,000 and had been paid to my bank account in Hong Kong. Will the entire GBP100,000 be exempted from UK tax (due to double taxation relief ), or the GBP20,000 increment (accumulated while being a UK tax resident ) is taxable?
