Moving from a self assessment to a personal account in a new Government Gateway User ID

I had a Business Gateway user ID with my personal account linked to it. Whilst the business was active, I used self-assessment. The business closed a few years ago and HMRC are aware of this. I wanted to transfer my personal tax to a straightforward PAYE account entirely separate from the now-closed business. I applied to HMRC to transfer from Self Assessment to PAYE. They recently agreed to this change and **gave me a new Government Gateway User ID**. But when I use the new Gateway Account to my alarm, I get the message "We have found your personal tax account under a Different Government Gateway user ID". How do I start using the new Gateway Account with a gateway number provided by HMRC? How do I kill off the old business account and move to a simple PAYE account for my personal tax??
