Mistaken IHT overpayment

I mistakenly over paid IHT by making an extra bank transfer . As I have not yet sold a property HMRC still have not closed the file on the Estate . Am I able to get a refund on the overpayment before the Estate is finally distributed ? It was a pure error on my part . I am the executor and was paying out of my own funds .
