Hello! As a way of background information, I am a Permeant Resident of UK and paying tax. My mother is domiciled in India and wishes to gift me some money that is being held in her bank accounts in UK. Would I be liable for Gift Tax provided the amount she gifts me is less than £325,000. Many Thanks!

Hi,

There are no Income Tax implications on the giving or receipt of a cash gift unless the cash gift generates interest or dividends. These would then potentially be subject to tax. You can guidance here:

Tax on savings interest

Tax on dividends

Thank you.
