I am a retired civil servant of Hong Kong. I am now taking the monthly pension from the government. To my knowledge, there is a Doulbe Taxation Agreement (DTA) between the UK and Hong Kong. The monthly pension I get should only be taxable in Hong Kong. As such, I would like to know if I should declare this income in my tax return or I have to declare this income and provide the details of the related article of the DTA on the page of further information for your consideration. Thanks

Hi,

Please see 2010 Hong Kong-UK DTA Article 17 which confirms that pensions arising in Hong Kong are taxable only in Hong Kong. You are not required to declare this on your Self Assessment return but may wish to declare it as additional information. The choice on whether or not you include it as additional information is your own.

Thank you.
