Do I need to file a self-assessment tax return if I entered the UK on September 27, 2022, my permanent UK residence began on October 7, 2022, I had salary income in Hong Kong until August 2022, and I also have savings income in a UK bank from April 6, 2022, to April 5, 2023?

Hi,

If you are claiming split year treatment, then yes. If you qualify for split year then you only report any foreign income for the UK part of the year.

RDRM12000 - Residence: The SRT: Split year treatment

If you do not qualify then you will need to report all your foreign income to the UK.

Tax on foreign income

The guidance at RDRM12150 at GOV.UK will help you work out if split year treatment applies.

Thank you.
