My wife completed and submitted her self assessment several months ago, and it shows approx £500 to pay related to the tax year 2023/4, which is due by 31st Jan 2025. The tax is related to a new business which was set up in December 2023, she paid approx £900 through PAYE during 2023/4 related to other employment. She logged in today to pay £500, however saw the message on her 'Personal Tax account - home' that for 6th April 2023 - 5th April 2024 that "You paid the right amount of tax, there is nothing more to pay for this year." Should she pay the amount shown on her self assessement calculation? Why does the account show as nothing to pay? Any clarification would be gratefully received.

Hi,

The amount due may not show until closer to the payment deadline of the 31st of January, 2025. Your wife may also have had enough credit on her Self Assessment account, either through

Payments on Account or previous years' overpayments, to cover the 23/24 amount due. To allow us to confirm this, though, please ask your wife to contact us by webchat or phone via:

Self Assessment: general enquiries

Thank you.
