Hi. I lived in the UK from 2017 to September 2023. The tax authorities back in my country of current residence are asking for a certificate of UK tax residence for a past year (specifically 2018). Is it possible to specify the tax year for which the certificate is needed in the online form?

Hi,

You can apply for a certificate of residence (COR) or letter of confirmation of residence (LOCR) if there is a double taxation agreement with the foreign country.  You can only request a COR for the present date or dates in the past. We cannot issue CORs for a future date. A LOCR is issued in relation to an foreign country, where there is no foreign income. Please have a look at the guidance below, from where you can also apply online.

Thank you.
