Hi - this is very long winded so I’ll try to keep this short. I left my previous employer in early September and started with my current employer late September. I recently received a letter from HMRC with my tax code and it had me down as still working at my previous job as well as my current. I’ve contacted my old employer in regards to my P45 and was told they did issue it when I left and sent me a copy today. I’ve noticed that the leaving date is correct but the date in the box of section 13 on part 1a is actually today’s date. Does this mean my p45 wasn’t processed until today? Or does the date in that box have a different meaning?

Hi,

It could suggest that your employer has only just now processed your P45, on the date given in box 13, athough there may be other explanations. You will need to contact our Income Tax team so we can review this, and update your record and codes as necessary.
