Hi, how long to I need to keep personal tax records and paperwork for? I have paperwork going back years, what's the cutoff where I can safely destroy that paperwork say X years after the tax year closes? Thanks.

Hi,

As HMRC can go back 6 years you will need to keep them for at least that length of time.

Thank you.

Thanks for this. So as an example, for the 2017/18 tax year which ended in April 2018, from April 2024 (6 years after the end of the tax year) I can safely destroy those records as they'd never need to be referenced again after that point? Thanks.
