I am an NHS employee in the pension scheme. To bring my adjusted net income below the 100k threshold to access tax free childcare / 30 free hours, I understand I can make additional pension contributions. Without doing this, due to covering industrial action by others, I will unexpectedly breach the 100k threshold this financial year. For the purposes of tax free childcare / 30 free hours, does this have to be via a regular recurring payment from salary (with tax relief via PAYE), or can it be via a one off lump sump payment with tax relief claimed via a tax return? I can foresee that doing it by lump sump may mean that the adjusted net income figure supplied to the tax free childcare team may not be accurate if it hasn't yet been adjusted to take account of the lump sum payment? Thanks for any advice.
