I am a non-domiciled UK resident since June 2015. I have been filing the remittance basis UK tax return for the past 7 years. I have accumulated funds in my India Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) account, to which both my Indian employer and I contributed during my employment tenure in India before moving to the UK. Now, I would like to withdraw the full EPF fund, which is close to £50,000, in a lump sum. I am planning to keep this withdrawn lump sum in India and not remit it to the UK. Could you please advise on the following: 1.Do I need to declare this EPF withdrawal in my UK self-assessment tax return? 2.Will the EPF withdrawal be taxable in the UK even though it is not remitted to the UK? 3.If the EPF withdrawal is taxable, will only the interest earned from 2017 onwards be taxed, or will the entire lump sum be taxed? Thank you for your assistance.
