High Income Child Benefit Charge - when does this apply

Does this apply from the month your yearly income exceeds £50,000 or the tax year from which your income exceeds £50,000? My last P60 "Total for year" is still under £50,000 but salary is now potentially over this (unsure due to deductions). Thanks
