P85 and Self Assessment

Hello, I've left the UK in 2022 and already filled out a P85, I've not had a reply yet - still pending. My self assemment estimates that I dont need to fill out a return but says I must notify HMRC. Is completed the P85 the same as 'notifying the HMRC' or do I need to un-register from self assessement tax returns as well before the 31st of Jan.? Thanks

The P85 will not close your Self Assessment account.
If you do not meet the criteria to file the 2022/23 Self Assessment tax return then you can check if you meet the criteria and send a submission to close online here:
