Salary decrease move from higher rate to basic rate

Hi, In January I moved jobs and took a reduction in salary which moved me from higher rate to basic rate tax. The tax in my salary this month has reduced significantly, does this sound right? My salary in 2023 was £59,560 and is not £44,000. Is it lower tax because I’m now a basic rate tax payer so paid more than I should last year?
