I am currently payed through PAYE for two separate jobs, but have registered for self assessment as my self-employed work earned about £2000 in 2024/25. I do not know how much I will earn next year as the work is irregular. I have been issued with updated tax codes for next year for my two PAYE jobs. Should I add "income from another source" for my self-employed income? I assume this will adjust my tax codes and I will be taxed more from my main jobs. As I have no idea how much my self-employed income will be, I would prefer just to be taxed as a lump sum when I fill in my self assessment. Is this okay?

Hi ,

As you have a gross profit from self employment of over £1,000, you will need to declare this in the self employment
section of a self assessment tax return.

Self assessment will calculate the tax and NIC due, if any on your profits.

This tax will be payable through self assessment.

If you owe less than £3,000 tax for the tax year, you can tick option in your tax return to have the tax collected through your tax code.

We’ll try to collect it through your wages or pension from the next tax year.

Thank you .
