Hello. I received a cash gift from my father about 6 years before his death. He left everything to my mother when he died. I understand there is a 7 year window prior to a death when gifts may be subject to inheritance tax. Would I be correct in thinking that, provided the total value of gifts made prior to his death did not exceed £325k, that there is no inheritance tax to pay on this? If there is tax to pay, I understand this would fall in the tax year of the death, rather than the tax year of the gift (if different). Is that correct? Thanks.
