Hello, I am about to receive a substantial lump sum from a member of my family who created a GRAT several years ago in the USA. The money made from the GRAT is being distributed to members of the family. All but two members are US citizens and live in the US. I am one of two beneficiaries that are UK citizens and live in the UK. The US citizens will not have to pay any tax on the gift. Do you know if I will need to pay tax on the lump sum gift? Thank you Peter

Hi Peter Farnell,
Grant Retained Annuity Trust (GRAT) is a non-resident trust.
Please have a look at the guidance at Non-resident trusts and for more information, contact the trust helpline on 0300 123 1072 (Overseas +44 300 123 1072) or write to HM Revenue & Customs Trusts BX9 1EL.
Thank you.
