Good Afternoon, 2 questions - based on the fact I am inheriting money from my late mother who was resident in Republic of Ireland, with no tax commitments in UK. 1) As the estate is in the Republic of Ireland, I am assuming that due to "Double Tax" agreements, there will be no need to pay again in the UK? 2) Do I need to declare the inheritance in the UK as there will be no income generation will be a lump sum? Many thanks

Hi,

Article 2 of the UK / Ireland tax treaty states those taxes that the treaty applies to. Inheritance tax is not one of them, so the treaty does not apply to Inheritance Tax. The money you inherited from your late mother in Ireland, is not taxable in the UK and you do not need to declare this inheritance.

Ireland: tax treaties

Thank you.
