I am aged 80 and have been completing an SA100 and other pages for more than 45 years. I pay tax on Pension, savings etc. I am considering starting work, part time, for my son who has no other employees and will earn around £12,500 p.a. My work time and place will be flexible and I currently do not work for anyone else but this is a possibility in the future. Is it acceptable, as I am not liable for N, because of my age, and earn below the normal taxable level, to register as self employed, or must I become an employee of my son?

Hi ,

If you and your son agree that your wages should be paid off-payroll, and any tax due paid via Self Assessment, this would be perfectly acceptable.

For more advice and help registering, contact us by webchat or phone via :

Self Assessment: general enquiries  .

As your employer, your son may wish to contact the Employer's Helpline via :

Employers: general enquiries   for more advice .

Thank you .
