Hi I am a housewife and the income that I have is below my personal allowance, while my husband is working in a UK job with a salary that would normally make him a higher rate income tax payer. However because of split-year treatment and my husband only starting his UK job in November 2022, for the tax year 2022-2023 the total taxable income of my husband was around £18000 which would put him in the basic income rate tax band for the tax year 2022-2023. Does this mean I can apply for Marriage Allowance for the tax year 2022-2023? Thank you!

Hi,

Yes, you can apply for this for the 2022 to 2023 year and when your husband submits the tax return to show he is claiming split year treatment, any refund due will be issued.

Thank you.
