As of early December, I have not yet received my Simple Assessment for tax year 23-34. I estimate I may owe about £1k in tax, but cannot pay it as there is not yet a 'debt' on the system to pay it against. Should I just keep waiting for the Simple Assessment to arrive, or should I submit a 'voluntary' Self Assessment by 31st January? The HMRC website is silent on what to do if you are meant to get a Simple Assessment, but have not received one.

I was very thankful for the post above and response from HMRC which answered my same query at the time. 4 months layer and I have still not received my Simple Assessment for Tax year 2023/2024. I estimate I may owe a few hundred pounds on savings interest and also the tax on odd gift i.e Nationwide £100 payment. Any idea when Self assessment's for Tax year 2023/2024 will be completed ? I am sure a lot of pensioners like myself just what to pay their Tax debt , It is one thing less to worry about.

Hi ,

It's possible that, from the information we've received from your banks and building societies, that you do not owe any tax - this may be why you haven't heard from us.

To confirm if you do owe anything, or if we need any more information to complete your tax calculation,

contact us by webchat or phone via :
