Hello. I started to receive my UK state pension this month (Sept 2024) and I've received communication from my private pension provider that my tax code has changed to M1. I understand that this is an emergency code while my state pension payments become established. My query is how long can I expect to be on the M1 code.....and will HMRC automatically amend my code....or do I need to take action at my end?

Hi,
It is classed as an emergency tax code, but it does not mean you will be paying anymore tax than you should be.
It is due to the adjustment in your code from your state pension, this code will remain in place till the end of the tax year March 25. and then will be removed automatically from Apr 25 onwards, so you will not need to take any action.
Thank you.
