I’ve recently had my tax code changed to NT (3rd June) my next invoice will be 17th June. I was told it could take effect for this payment or it could be Julys. Is there a timeframe for tax codes to take effect? Also I was told that once it does take effect I will have any tax paid to date refunded. Thank you 🙏

Hi Davie260563,
Tax code changes are sent electronically to your employer, and will usually only take a few days to be received and implemented by them.
If your employer has run their payroll before they receive your tax code update, they will not have time to implament the requested changes before you receive your next pay.
The changes will therefore take effect for the pay after next.
With a code of NT, you should be refunded all tax paid so far.
Thank you.

Good morning HMRC Admin 25 My employer run a weekly pay run so that should be fine. I received a letter from HMRC yesterday stating that they will pay any UK PAYE tax I’ve already paid until after the end of the tax year on 5th April 2025 when thy know my income details for that year. They state I may be able to get ‘some’ tax back from my employer depending on how my employer pays me. I was under the impression I would receive all tax paid to date once my NT code had been implemented.

Hi,

Normally, if an NT code has been issued, under PAYE any tax paid in the current year should be refunded.

Thank you.
