Hi, Looking to claim higher rate pension relief on past 4 years pension contributions. For the years in question I have previously submitted a Tax Return, will claiming relief (via writing in to HMRC) cause a penalty to be issued due to the original return being incorrect or submitted late? Thanks.

No. An innocent oversight which means you've paid too much tax isn't a target for HMRC!

Hi Bobbin Along,
No, if the original tax return was filed by the due date there will not be a late filing penalty.
There will not be a penalty for the amendment.
Thank you.
