Employment start date

I hope someone can help. I have been with my current employer for about 7 months, and they have my start date wrong. As a result, I was charged an emergency tax rate for some time when I joined. I have done everything I can to ask them to change it and I have been assured that it has been changed. I have an updated contract to prove it. I am not sure why they are not updating HRMC about this information. So tax overpaid through the BR tax code is still owed to me. Is there a way I can advise HMRC myself about the start date and no longer wait on my employer to do so?
