Hi there ! Hope you'll doing great. So my great grandmother passed away back in 2015, my grandparents have just sold her house and are giving me £5000, knowing that they've already paid the tax on this amount. What is the tax law around this ? My grandparents would not like me to pay tax on this amount. Thanks a lot ! Alex

Hi,

There are no Income Tax implications on the receipt of a cash gift unless the cash gift generates interest or dividends.
These would then potentially be subject to tax.
Further guidance can be found here:

Tax on savings interest

Tax on dividends

Thank you.
