My husband and I have no other income than interest from our investments. Up until now no tax has been due but this year due to rate increases it might be. I know the banks report interest direct to hmrc, however these amounts have never shown on our online accounts. Should we be able to see them? Also if we do end up owing tax, will we have to figure it all out and fill in a self assessment or will hmrc automatically send us a notice of the tax owed and amount to be paid? Many thanks

Hi,
HMRC will issue you a calculation if there is any tax due. You will need to complete a tax return if the Interest reaches £10,000 a year.
Thank you.
