Notional income tax

Hi, I was given GBP6k worth of shares in my company in 2023. I am now paying notional income tax on these shares? I have received no income, and the shares are not sold. Can you please confirm this is correct. I am about to leave the company, and the shares will need to be sold back to the company, but I will not get the income from the sale of shares for 3 years?
