Hello, In January 2024, I will be relocating from the UK to Colombia with their new digital nomad visa. I will continue to work for a UK based non-profit organisation part time (3/4 days a week) and likely paid into my UK bank account. I have been told I will transfer from being an employee to becoming a contractor and so will lose benefits such as pension contributions and sick leave. My understanding is the Colombian digital nomad visa states that I won’t be paying tax in Colombia, my question is do I still need to pay income tax and NI in the UK even though I won’t be living here?

Hi,

This will depend on whether you are regarded as UK resident. Please see guidance here:

Tax on foreign income

The Statutory Residence Test will help you determine your residence status:

RDR3 Statutory Residence Test

Thank you.
