Because of the freezing of allowances I have just become a higher rate taxpayer. Is it my responsibility to cancel the Marriage Allowance or will it happen automatically ? All my income is subject to PAYE so the syatem should recognise the new situation.

Given up waiting for an answer so have manually cancelled it. It's worth noting that when you have to select the reason for the cancellation it does NOT offer' becoming a high rate taxpayer' as an option. I had to use the 'Not needed any more' option. Also it won't let me cancel it until April 2025, so I am forced to claim it for this financial year even though I do not qualify. Not impressed.

That's what I did, but it didn't answer my original question as to who was responsible, me or HMRC. And my comments in my second post still apply. So still not impressed
