Hi I am an Australian resident in receipt of a pension lump sum. I have been advised to claim the emergency tax paid using form R43. It seems the default option is for a cheque but foreign cheques are virtually impossible to cash in Australia since 2022. Is there somewhere I should specify my UK bank account details for the refund? Thanks

Hi.

You can write your bank details on a blank bit of the form. However, the R43 will only give personal allowances. If the pension is over this amount, you may want to consider a double taxation relief claim. See guidance in the link below:

Double Taxation: Treaty Relief (Form DT-Individual)

Thank you.
