Hi, A colleague from a EU country has a savings account in their home country where they earn a bit of interest annually. He is unsure if he needs to report this to HRMC, since any interest paid on the money stays in the account and further all interest is taxed according to his country's income tax rules. My understanding is that as long as any interest earned is under £2000 and no money is brought into the UK he is fine. Is this correct? He lives and works in the UK, so he is a tax resident here. Thank you

Hi,

If claiming the remittance basis then there is no need to declare it if he meets the following conditions:

Remittance basis 2023 (HS264)

Thank you.
