I have been made redundant for the second time, once in 2004 and now again in 2024. My employer states I've already used some of my tax free allowance in 2004, so my 2024 tax free allowance will be reduced, is this correct?

Hi Susan,
That does not sound correct, as your personal allowance is given on a yearly basis so something that happened 20 years ago would be irrelevant for this years tax free allowance. Did they not mean that you have used some of your personal allownce in this tax year already Apr 24 onwards maybe with your salary prior to being made redundant? You will probably need to speak with your payroll again to get a better pciture of what they mean.
Thank you.
