I have not lived in the UK for 16 years. During those years I have not earned any income in the UK. Last year when I turned 55 in May I took a tax free cash lump sum from a S32 Personal Pension and also received the rest of my pension fund as a drawdown payment. I was taxed approximately £2500 on the draw down amount. I was advised that double taxation agreement does not apply here but that as my uk income was below the tax threshold I would receive a refund of the tax I paid. I was advised by HMRC that I did not need to take any further action and that the refund would be automatically sent to me. I am still waiting to receive any letter or cheque. Do I need to contact HMRC again?
