Hello, I am self-employed and have just filled in all the information related to 2023/2024 Tax return, adding also all the information related to income from house rented in Italy. At the end of the claim there is a summary with calculation and tax to pay. It looks like I have to pay taxes for the abroad income; the agreement between Italy and United Kingdom states that I have to pay taxes primarily in Italy because the house is located in Italy and I cannot have double taxation. I was wondering whether it is correct what I have known so far related to the agreement between Italy and the UK. Thank you

Hi,

The double taxation treaty allows both countries to tax the rental income. you can claim foreign tax credit relief for any Italian tax paid to reduce your UK tax bill.

Relief for foreign tax paid (Self Assessment helpsheet HS263)

Thank You.
