Reporting Savings Interest

If a taxpayer exceeds £10 000 in savings interest once the banks and building societies have submitted their interest statements to HMRC, will HMRC notify the taxpayer that they require a self assessment tax form to be completed and submitted?

Yes, once all bank infomation is held.
If you know in advance though, you can register yourself and file the return.
