Dear HM Revenue and Customs, As a Russian citizen living in the UK for over 183 days (BRP) and registered as a Sole Trader, I would like to inquire about the tax implications of receiving a gift of less than £3,000 from my parents in Russia. Will this amount be subject to taxation? If so, could you please advise on the rate at which it would be taxed? If not, I would appreciate guidance on the necessary documentation to ensure there are no issues with my tax filings for this year, especially given my status as a Sole Trader. And do I need to inform anyone in any specific way as soon as I receive this gift? Thank you for your assistance. Best regards,

Hi,

There are no Income Tax implications on the receipt of a cash gift unless the cash gift generates interest or dividends. These would then potentially be subject to tax. Further guidance can be found here:

Tax on savings interest

Tax on dividends

Thank you.
