My father died in Hong Kong where he was domiciled for over 40 years. His estate has been administered in Hong Kong and I will have my inheritance transferred into my UK bank account by the legally appointed administrator. My father had no UK assets, UK property or UK savings and no permanent residences in UK within 8 years of his death. Please can you confirm the following: 1) Am I liable for any inheritance tax? 2) Assuming that I am not liable, do I still need to declare to HMRC where I have received this sum of money from? Thank you.

Hi
As there is no UK assets there is no inheritance tax to pay in the UK and you only need to declare any interest or dividends that the income then generates.
Thankyou.
