Hi, I submitted a P85 form by post on the 28th of August 2024 a few days before I moved overseas. I have not heard anything since. According to HMRC’s “check when you can expect a reply” online form I should have been contacted by the 10th of October. Is there any reason why I have had no response to my form? Additionally how should I expect my reply? Via post or email?

I have an update and follow up question. I have now received a reply to my nominee’s address confirming what I am owed and with a cheque enclosed. However both the letter and cheque are addressed to me rather than my nominee. Her name is nowhere on the letter or cheque. How is she meant to cash this cheque at the bank? Is this an error that HMRC needs to fix?

Hi,
Unfortunately, this sounds like an error as you requested it to be paid to a nominee on the P85. Please contact our Income Tax team who should be able to resolve this for you.
