HMRC changed my tax code and I paid much more tax than I should. The only way I can contact HMRC is by helpline, as I cannot find any webchat or email address where I can explain my situation. I have been trying to call them 5 times today but did not even put me on waiting, the automated phone system would say there are too many calls and just hangs up. The website advise to contact HMRC as soon as possible if a wrong tax code is used but I am wasting all my time just to connect. If I do not fix it now, I will continue to pay more tax. Another issue is that I tried to update my main address through personal tax account and it would not let me and asks me to contact by phone! Is there any other way to contact HMRC to fix my issue?

Hi Juil Sock,

The tax code can only be updated if you contact us by telephone or in writing.

Our helplines are busy at the moment please keep trying to get through.

Hi - how do I get hmrc to update my tax code - I'm told the self assessment helpline is only looking at specific self assessment queries and I don't seem to be able to do this via the personal tax account. Thanks
